Ruean Siam Restaurant, Krabi, Thailand

Turn right, on the Sheraton Krabi beach, you you’ll find the home of Ruean Siam. It’s an open air Thai restaurant serving local favourites, right on the beach, and overlooking the stunning Andaman Sea. Compared to the Sheraton, prices were very cheap, with dishes all around $3.00 USD. Portions were a tad smaller than Jumpa Thai Restaurant, but with such a beautiful ocean view, who could complain!

Gary started off with a Fresh Young Coconut, of course. This was his staple drink during our tour of South East Asia. You can’t get a healthier drink than this. Feeling like little caffeine jolt, I opted for a Coke.

Garlic Prawns – These shrimp were huge, cooked perfectly, and the crispy garlic was sweet and crunchy.

Tom Yum Soup – Heavenly aromatic, with whiffs of lemongrass and ginger. It was tangy and spicy, although I could have enjoyed it more with a slight higher level of heat.

Spring Rolls – Deep fried to a golden brown, these were packed with shrimp and vegetables and served with a sweet dipping sauce. Pad Thai – Served with chicken, bean sprouts, and peanuts, this was delightfully authentic (of course) and Pad Thai in Vancouver paled in comparison.

And here was our view, a gorgeous sunset over the Andaman Sea!
