Upon arrival to Hong Kong, we were exhausted from our long flight and were in desperate need of a good night’s sleep. We had planned to stay with my husband’s aunt in Kowloon, but knew it would be tight quarters. We decided to book a hotel for the night near the airport and reserved a room using the Priceline app on our iPhone. We would definitely recommend the app as it was very handy indeed!
We stayed at the hotel Novotel Citygate, in Tung Chung – a stylish, contemporary hotel conveniently located near the Hong Kong Airport. Amenities include meeting facilities, two restaurants, a bar, a 24-hour gym, and a large outdoor pool complete with a waterfall and plenty of loungers.
The Novotel is just 5 minutes from the airport by taxi. The hotel location allows for direct access to the MTR (Hong Kong subway) – taking only 30 minutes to the city center and 2 subway stops away from Hong Kong Disneyland. Ngong Ping Cable Car, Lantau Island and Walking with Buddha attractions are just steps away. Great designer shopping deals at Citygate Outlets are to be found – offering everything from Burberry, Kate Spade, Diane Von Fursternberg to Mango and 7 For All Mankind.
A great thing about Novotel Citygate is it’s away from the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong but the city is still easily accesible by MTR. Bonus: the hotel offers a free shuttle-bus to the airport, every 15 minutes starting at 6:00am to 11:45pm.
We paid approximately $160 USD + taxes per night for our king room. Considering most 4 star hotels are well over $200 per night in Hong Kong, it was good value. Our room had lovely views of the ocean, mountains and pool. Robes and slippers were provided for added comfort as were complimentary bottles of drinking water.
Being a couple, our room was well suited to us, but I could see there being a privacy issue with family or friends. The bathroom is open-concept: the sink is near the bed, with separate shower (no bathtub) and toilet stalls – each only partitioned by frosted glass.
Hotel Novotel Hong Kong Citygate is rated #10 out of the top 25 hotels in Hong Kong/Macau/Taiwan and it is the perfect in-transit hotel. We would definitely recommend it for its amenities and close proximity to the airport, outlets and Lantau Island.
