During our trip to Singapore, we were fortunate to stay with our good friends, Tom & Elaine at their lovely Mandarin Gardens apartment. Located along the East Coast, Mandarin Gardens is one of the most sought after condominium complexes for expats residing in Singapore. Units are well spaced out with large balconies – some facing the sea, and others (like Tom & Elaine’s) have incredible, panoramic views of the East Coast area:
With 1000 units, this development offers so many amenities that you don’t even need to leave the comfort of the Mandarin Gardens complex! A dentist office, hair salon, mini-mart, children’s playground, fitness track, outside fitness station, indoor gym, tennis courts, Olympic sized swimming pool, wadding pool, sauna, squash courts, BBQ pits, basketball courts, and a Thai restaurant – are all located inside the compound.
If you do venture out, everything you need is within walking distance. With its proximity to the East Coast beach (an underpass leads residents from the complex directly to East Coast Park), famous seafood restaurants like Jumbo, supermarkets at Siglap Centre, shopping at Parkway Parade Mall and plenty of eating outlets or ‘hawker centres’, all make Mandarin Gardens the ideal place to live.
Feeling like heading downtown Singapore? Hop on a public transit bus or hail a cab, right out front of Mandarin Gardens – both are clean, comfortable, and inexpensive.
The easy going, convenient lifestyle is not the only advantage to living on Singapore’s East Coast. Another perk is being so close to Changi International Airport and its Budget Terminal. A five minute taxi ride to the airport makes weekend trips to Malaysia, Indonesia or Thailand that much easier. Elaine and Tom are able to leave on a Friday afternoon for a quick getaway, and then catch a return flight on Monday morning, arriving just in time to make it to work downtown Singapore! However, you don’t really need to leave Singapore. The tiny country has great beaches, excellent nightlife, fabulous shopping, unique outdoor activities, and I think is one of the best food havens in the entire world.
Although always in high demand, flats are occasionally available to purchase or rent.
