I bet you didn’t know that you can find a variety of vegan, gluten-free, and sugar-free organic baked goods, organic varieties of beer & wine, organic & fair trade coffee and tea, and live & raw smoothies – all in one restaurant in Hong Kong?! Hong Kong is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in all of Asia – so if there’s something you want, there’s a good chance you can find it in HK.
Located at 10 Shelley Street in Soho, directly across from El Taco Loco, Life Cafe is a modern vegetarian restaurant providing delicious healthy food while supporting the community and the planet as an eco-friendly business. Established in 2004, the restaurant & bar is well known in Hong Kong for their signature salads, global dishes and organic baking made daily from scratch by their own chefs.
Their landmark location is complimented by an interior produced from reclaimed teak wood, world music playing day and night and a different dining experience on three unique floors.
We had just finished eating a late lunch/early dinner across the way at El Taco Loco but were still a little hungry. Gary and I both decided to order from Cafe Life’s Tea Time Menu. I ordered the Afternoon Cookie/Biscuit/Square Set ($45 HKD) that came with your choice of organic tea or coffee, and a cookie or muffin.
Being as we were at the end of our month long journey through Asia, it was comforting to drink a tea brand that I normally purchase at home. Gary had the Yogi Energy Green Tea with hints of spearmint, lemongrass and ginseng root – real goji berries were added to the drink. Since it was late in the day, I wanted to stay away from caffeine so I opted for the digestion aiding Yogi Lemon Ginger herbal tea.
I chose the Gluten-Free Chocolate Chunk Cookie. Hold-up, no wheat flour? Yes, and it was actually incredibly delicious. You would have no idea that it didn’t contain any gluten-y wheat. Gary ordered their Organic Banana Bread – it was more literally a slice of bread than a cake/loaf type of banana bread. Good, however a tad on the dry side.
Life Cafe offers a variety of baked goods, cakes, and salads that you can purchase on-the-go from their main level deli.
Service was very welcoming, friendly, attentive, and prompt. Their flourless chocolate cake looked unbelievable – I’ll definitely be back to Life Cafe next time we’re in Hong Kong. I heart Soho!
